Carriers

I saw a preview of this at the theatre thinking it was going to appear there sometime, so I was surprised to see it on the shelf at the video store. This movie is classified as horror, but I think it is more of a psychological thriller, if anything. The story is about some infectious disease which spreads from direct or airborne contact which kills you in a matter of a week. It's another movie about the end of the human race (think: Resident Evil), but from the perspective of the loss of humanity. I think I would have liked this movie better as a book. It was dismal and heartbreaking. Lou Taylor Pucci plays the younger brother to Chris Pine, and the dynamic between them and their extreme opposites in behaviour, personality and character is sad. It's hard to look at this movie as a horror, because the movie is undeniably sad. Although this poster totally freaks me out. Even the brothers lose their humanity for each other which sets the tone that survival is stronger than love, or least that's the message the movie says. I can see why this never made it to theatres in Canada, but I'm sure it was in theatres in the U.S., just like A Perfect Getaway played there but not here. If you're into end of humanity movies, this mighht be one you might want to take a look at.
