Richard Gere and Diane Lane have great chemistry together. What a turn for them from the last movie they did together (Unfaithful) to this. What a tear jerker. I failed to commit myself to part of the movie because I knew how it would end, because once you've had true love, you know its fated for something to happen. The book that this is based on, the author always has heartache, so presumably, people do expect something from what might happen. It was passionate, romantic, life-changing and unexpected. I certainly don't think this is a date movie. Especially if the person you're on a date with doesn't make you feel like "anything can happen" and makes you "the best version of yourself."
