I waited awhile to see this because of all the Heath Ledger hype around it. I heard some mixed reviews solely based on Ledger's performance. To say the least, Ledger doesn't deserve an Oscar for this role. If and when Oscar season rolls around, and he is nominated I will be very upset. I don't see it. Ledger took Nicholson's performance, or very characteristic laugh, and made it his own while he the new Joker was edgier or realistic because that's what the new batman movies are supposed to be. I didn't care for this one nearly as much as the first one. There are so many reasons. There is too much going on with all the characters. The movie revolves around Rachel, Dent, that cop, Joker and Batman. I was a fan of the effects for Two Face. I liked that Gyllenhaal replaced Holmes. Bale looked like he hadn't recovered yet from his Vietnam movie. That was a good movie. The first Batman he was really bulked up, but in this film his face looked sallow. Needless to say, too much happened, it was way too long and the 2nd villian didn't need to take place. I was also annoyed with the philosophical entity to the Joker. Like the Joker had some unknowing wisdom that no one else knew, yet he was a crazy psycho who liked to kill people and destroy the good of the world. It could be referenced biblically I bet, or at least from a theological perspective. TOO MUCH WAS GOING ON and not enough BALE.
