The Flock

This movie was awesome. I loved it! It was raw, gritty and humanistic. It was a slow psychological thriller, but it pays in the end. There was no gimmicks, no hidden surprises to grasp your attention. It was great script, filled with neuroticism, distorted justice, and a strange balance. I was worried it was going to be a B movie because it wasn't in theatres, and the opening scene seemed like it was headed that way. I was surprised how good this film was. Richard Gere's character is unethical, abrupt and exactly the kind of person we wish we could all be when it came to keeping bad people in check. Claire Dane's character was very good at be patient with Babbage's (a really bad choice of character name if you ask me) quirky, unusual and at sometimes creepy behaviour. I RECOMMEND YOU SEE THIS. Hint: if yyou are squeamish, especially about people's unique and unfavourable sexual preferences, you may not be able to sit through this. It was incredible.

Get Smart

I never watched the TV series, but I heard from people who did watch the show said that Carell did a really good job. Agent 86 (Carell's character) reminded me of Inspector Clouseau and Leslie Nielsen. It was laugh out funny. I couldn't help laugh in an empty theatre. It was charming, fun and hysterical. It's a great comedy for the summer. I have always been a fan of Carell, his only miss is "Evan Almighty", but what can you do??? The only thing I didn't like was that some of the slapstick was too much and the whole reaching out to the bad guy kind of thing. A summer must see.

Fool's Gold

Maybe because "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" was such a hit, that there were a lot of expectations for this one too. I liked it. I can see why it didn't do that well in theatres. It was missing something that I can't put a finger to. This movie seemed like a Goldie Hawn flick. Break up with the husband and then get back together. Its definitely a summer movie, which came out too soon in the year. It just didn't do it for me.

The Bucket List

It was cute. This movie is a reminder for everyone that has something they want to do in life, that they can still do it. Its going out with peace of mind, which I'm sure is the way everyone would want to go. Nicholoson plays the same asshole he always play. It seems he's been type-casted for the last decade or more. Morgan Freeman is as beautiful as ever. The message of the movie was stronger than the actual movie for me. Family and friends are everything. Everyone should know that.

The Happening

So M. Night Shyamalan's movies are either a hit or miss. I watched it Friday night, but I couldn't conclude whether I liked it or not. I was actually quite neutral about it. After a few days, I have decided that it wasn't very good. I don't think the neurotransmitter blocking chemical that causes people to commit suicide was highly unlikely. VERY unlikely. It had the feel of global warming and the environment, which for some reason turned me off. It had the same humour, a really scary lady, and.... I dunno. This was not very good. I did though, think that the opening titles were brilliant. I also thought that movie score by Howard something was very fitting. Maybe his next film will be better. To be clear, nothing really happened. Unlike Iron Man which also had nothing happening, it didn't keep the audience interested. It had some horror in it that was slightly off tilt. I saw some things that were maybe just for the shock value and not on a realistic level. The whole committing suicide... I didn't like too much. I would not recommend nor tell anyone not to see it. M. Night is just the kind of director that you need to base your own opinions on.

You Don't Mess With the Zohan

To be honest it was in my words "eeeeeeeeeeeh." It didn't suck but it wasn't great either. What I was fiinding too much was all the sexuality... it went a bit too far at some point. I was surprised to see that Robert Smigel had a part in the writing of the screenplay. It made sense after the credits rolled and I thought of his short animations he did for SNL and the themes that the animations covered such as the Middle East, homosexuality, white supremists and "bourgeois" New Yorkers. I could have died with all the humus jokes in the movie. After watching some brilliant comedies, it seems that lately comedic movies are lacking the sarcasm and wit that indie and low budget comedies are producing, or maybe I'm just getting used to the dark comedies that are becoming ever so popular. The ending was really great and positive and set a good example of what we should be doing. The dominant themes throughout the movie is sex, stereotypes, nationality and peace. Everything that is on everyone minds these days. I'm not too sure I could watch this movie again for awhile.

La Vie En Rose

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Brilliant... Beautiful. Marion Cotillard deserved the Oscar. I guess I had seen her act before, but I didn't recognize her at all, not even at the Oscars. With not many movies under her belt, after A Good Year this was certainly a challenge. It had a great scirpt, great costumes, great acting. It was a treat to watch. I definitely waited too long to watch it. All aspects of the film were great. I wish I knew more about Edith Piaf's life. There were some parts that would have or could have been better explained. There were a couple parts that felt empty and unexplained. The first was when Edith was taken to her grandmother's brothel. Her father strays from his mother's touch and leaves. That shouldn't have been that at all because it leaves it unexplained since the brothel is only a small part of Edith's life. The second part (SPOILER) was when Edith on her death bed finally speaks about her daughter which wasn't explained and thrown in at the end. How old was Edith? What seemed coincidental was that her daughter's name was Marcelle and the love of her life was Marcel. It was heart wrenching and it ultimately destroyed her by all the love she had and had lost. As an observation, an actor/actress portraying real-life people either wins an Oscar or gets nominated for an Oscar. Recent examples: Helen Mirren as the Queen, Philip Seymour Hoffman as Capote, Jamie Fox as Ray... Tip: How to win an Oscar, play a famous person or as in the show Extras be in a movie about the Hollocaust. What a wonderful movie this was.

Sex and the City

What can I say? It was alright. Too much time had passed from when I finished watching the last episode to watching the movie. Maybe had I refreshed the episodes I may have liked it that much more. The movie was definitely CHEESY. Too much narration in the way that it was recapping the past and not narrating the now like the show was. It was inconsistent. I absolutely hated the parallel plot. It was disgusting. Could they have picked any one else other than Jennifer Hudson to play Louise? She is awful at acting. I'm surprised she has an oscar... oh wait, the oscars make some bad mistakes. I would have liked to see Sam Jones embrace her characters promiscuous habits, but instead at 5o she finally grew up. Weird. It just wasn't the same.
