This is a story about a love affair between a man and a woman whom has a 30 plus years between them. I could have done without the narrative at the beginning by Kingsley. Something about "I wanted to fuck her" is not really romantic, even though it is honest and is exactly what he was thinking. I find that when reading male narratives written by men, they tend to talk like this. Its unappealing to me, but maybe its just a female thing. I liked the friendship between Kingsley and Hopper. It had that extra added element that you might find in a chick flick. Maybe this is equivalent to a male chick flick that is a drama. I never really thought about how much I enjoyed about this film. I liked Kinglsey's relationship with Sarsgarrd... though how he could be his son seems unlikely. I appreciated the art references like Velasquez's Las Meninas. I've really grown a liking for Cruz, since I never really cared for her. I loved Kingsley's jealousy of whether Cruz was cheating on him and wanting to be with younger men. The ending was poignant and showed the deeper levels of love that run deeper than the sex that he craved for, but the mind of the beautiful woman which was the theme of the story. Men can never really love a beautiful woman because they are so entrenched by their looks that they don't see the real woman. Its a beautiful story, it has great acting and it is something worth watching.
