Step Up 2 the Streets

Not nearly as good as the first. Even the first isn't the best movie nor the best dance movie- which in my opinion is Center Stage- for the reason that the plot is thinner, less dialogue, less dancing, less romance and really its just lacking in all areas. Don't get me wrong, I still liked it and I would probably watch it again. If you're a person who likes watching dance movies you should watch it. The last dance number at the end is worth watching the whole movie for. The last dance is actually quite incredible. Better than anything you would find on Randy Jackson's Best Dance Crew 1 and 2. The lead actress is not the best actress or dancer. What was a total let down was that Cassie who plays Sophie doesn't even get to show her amazing dancing abilities. Which is way better than the lead girl's dancing. The ending was worth sitting through the rest of the movie to see.

Charlie Bartlett

This was a movie I was waiting to see because I thought it was going to be good. It was awful for so many reasons. It left this Breakfast Club feel in my mouth that shouldn't have been there. High School for some is about popularity, but for others, they just don't care. I probably cared in grade 9 and then had a real dose of reality that all these people do outside of school is party, talk shit about other people and date everyone in their circle. Let me tell you, not hanging out with the so called "popular kids" saved my life, made me a better person and made me the unique person I am now. The same statement that was made throughout the movie was: there are better things in life than being popular. And Charlie's response was "Like what?". I'm sorry, but whoever wrote this in their life placed to much importance on the acceptance and approval of their peers. The sooner you figure out that they don't know what to think at 17, the sooner you realize you are just like everyone else. If my high school boyfriend announced to over 300 people that he lost his virginity right after, I probably would beat the shit out of him. Where is the significance in sex that has no connection with religion not being said???

What is horrible is that Robert Downey Jr. even picked this role to be the principal. AWFUL. I'm sure Robert made the character better or made the movie seem more cool then it actually was, but seriously, what was he thinking? He is above this. This role was for washed out actors that can only be portrayed as a father figure in a terrible teen movie about the "stress" of not having someone to talk to in high school. WE ALL HAVE PROBLEMS. Not only as a teenager, but as an adult. This is the shit that lingers in the back of our minds all the time. By the age of 17 and you are still focusing on how different and out of place you are and being unpopular, well you should move on. THIS IS HIGH SCHOOL. IT IS ONLY 4 YEARS OF YOUR LIFE. HIGH SCHOOL DOESN'T DETERMINE WHO YOU ARE, YOU DO. If this is how people measure their lives, they are certainly going no where fast in life. The minute you finish high school you are just like everyone else that you went to school with. All those so called "special" people are no longer speical. Seriously. If those were the best 4 years of my life, then I have a long shitty life ahead of me.

This whole movie rubbed me the wrong way. First of all, what kind of message is being said that medicinal drugs will make your problems go away? There can't be some 300 or so kids that need medicinal help for their so called self-absorbed problems? It was extremely cliche, unethical portrayal of what teenagers think and feel. The more I talk about it, the more I dislike and loathe it. This is why Juno was such a hit. It was well written and a true portrait of how the strange high school students are really like. They don't care about the so called popular kids because they know how gay they all really are so why waste time trying to impress them. That being said, the whole suicidal part was poorly done, and had no real effect on how to cope with that kind of depression that guy was feeling. It was done all wrong. I don't even want to start on this section of the movie because I will end up writing 6 pages on it. Anyways, this was a crap movie.

Wall-E

This will win the Oscar. This is how computer animated movies used to be. None of this Cars, Madagascar, Shrek shit, but some actual very thought out plot, stellar animated work, and a conscious moral. This one will be a classic and always remembered and the other 1oo computer animated family movies will be forgotten. This is how movies are supposed to be made. This movie is basically about a robot left on Earth to clean up the garbage so that humans can come back to Earth. 700 years later and Wall-E is the only working robot left. Finally someone returns to Earth and instantly Wall-E falls in love with Eve. Eve is on a mission and once she finds it, she sends her signal to go home with the goods. Wall-E's, Eve's and all the human's journey begins.

This movie was so adorable. A very realistic account of first love. An innocent love. The humans on the cruise were adorable. The specialized robots were so cute. The whole movie was just down right heart melting. In fact, I'm sure I heard my heart melt. I had warm fuzzy feelings long after the movie. The message of the movie was that everyone needs to be taken care of, and the longing to belong and be part of a community and to be loved was very prevalent in all animal drives.

Probably the one thing looking back at it now is that the creators didn't need to make it so obvious that Wall-E was a boy and Eve was a girl. To be clear, these are robots. They don't have a sexual orientation. That the only kind of love there is, is the one that exists between a man and a woman. That Wall-E was lonely, but even having a friend he could actually talk to would have precipitated his loneliness. This is the sort of image that is forced down everyone's throats. It's the kind of imagery that will make its mark on children. Boys have to be with girls. What an uproar this movie would have been if say the robots both seemed male. Is that where children's movies will ever go? Or is this a place where children's movies will never go? It's very confusing for children to think that they need to be in a sexual relationship with someone at an early age. This is why children have sex so young. Our sexual gender roles are being compromised by the over stimulation of it in the media. Any tween and teen who is single feels like a freak, and out of place because they don't have a sexual relationship with anyone. This is the kind of stuff that creates insecurities for people who don't know how to let other people in and for people who don't know how to be single and completely dependent on another person to make them happy. Certainly Pixar films are loaded with content that can be discussed and carefully looked at. This is the reason why Pixar films are so much better than Disney and Dreamworks films... Pixar had it right the first time.

Anyways. This is a must see. If you don't see this, you are missing out on a classic. This movie is just good 'ol fun to watch and be a part of.

Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus

This was a brilliant film. It was erotic and unusual. Diane enacts out all her deepest desires when she encounters a new neighbour with a genetic condition that opens her world to a "freak" paradise. Its charming, smart and at some times uncomfortable. Jr.'s character has strange stereotypes of rich women in their childhood. I certainly would have a few questions for him about this movie. A love story like all love stories where unforseen circumstances alter the future of the two lovers. Its the recognition and acceptance of one's own differences and desires and exploring them. This movie was definitely strange, but moving and interesting at the same time. I recommend this movie for people who like this kind of genre and quirkiness.

10,000 BC

This film reminded me of a BBC film on the Discovery channel for some reason. There was basically no dialougue and I was very curious as to whether those birds existed back then at that size. What annoyed me the most was where was this place occuring on the planet? Europe, North America...??? Either way, they managed to walk through 3 different climates, snowy mountains, lush rain forests, Africa and Egypt. Clearly there was no truth to this. I happened to like Apocalypto better, even though a friend of mine thought this one was better. It was not a bad movie as everyone else said it was, but you can't please anyone these days.

Wanted

I loved it. Its every dork's dream come true: you work a 9 to 5 that you hate and are a push over and you find out that you are the son of an assassin after some hot ass woman captures you. A bit fantasy and unrealistic action, but James McAvoy... hot Hot HOT. It could have done without all the sarcasm, but I guess all dork's think they are witty and brilliant. I still liked it. There were the weird shots that EVERYONE is using, but there is not escaping it. Maybe someone will come up with something better than what they have been using. Its a must see. I can't really describe it.

The Flock

This movie was awesome. I loved it! It was raw, gritty and humanistic. It was a slow psychological thriller, but it pays in the end. There was no gimmicks, no hidden surprises to grasp your attention. It was great script, filled with neuroticism, distorted justice, and a strange balance. I was worried it was going to be a B movie because it wasn't in theatres, and the opening scene seemed like it was headed that way. I was surprised how good this film was. Richard Gere's character is unethical, abrupt and exactly the kind of person we wish we could all be when it came to keeping bad people in check. Claire Dane's character was very good at be patient with Babbage's (a really bad choice of character name if you ask me) quirky, unusual and at sometimes creepy behaviour. I RECOMMEND YOU SEE THIS. Hint: if yyou are squeamish, especially about people's unique and unfavourable sexual preferences, you may not be able to sit through this. It was incredible.
